Think of an attribute to focus on, one that seems important to your life. Let’s take “courage,” as an example.
Start your day with a reflection on courage. What does it look and feel like in your life? What challenges lie ahead today where that attribute might be called for, or where it might play out?
How will you know when that challenge comes up, and how will you be aware of what it triggers in you? How do you know when you are that attribute?
You can extend this Attribute Challenge in at least a couple ways.
You might extend it in time. Not just for a day, but for a week or a month. After all, though there are some benefits to any focus on an attribute like this, doing so for a day has a “30 countries in 30 days” superficial feel to it. Try it for a week and see what happens when you reflect on and try to actualize an attribute for that period of time.
You also might extend it beyond yourself, say for your workgroup/team or the organization as a whole. Now you’re in much trickier, but also potentially rich and rewarding, territory. How can you experience this attribute together? How can your actions reflect it to others? How can you encourage or challenge others to raise their awareness and have it be a natural demonstration of the organization’s work?
What attribute would you start with? Courage, compassion, patience, focus, awareness…..
